June Newsletter

June is another very exciting month at Strathmillan School. We are so proud of the accomplishments and growth of our students this year. Please note that classrooms are busy planning their year end celebrations to acknowledge these successes.

This is also a time to say farewell to our grade 5 students who are transitioning to Middle School and to our families who are moving. Best of wishes at your new schools.

Welcome back to Ms. H. Hueging, Mrs. C. Rose and Ms. J. Sveistrup who have all returned from their maternity leaves. In addition, Mrs. S. Steuart has decided to follow her heart and will be teaching Grade 5 full time next year. As a result, we will be saying “good-bye” to Ms. L. Neufeld, Mr. C. Rivet, Ms. K. Cleave, Mrs. G. Rafter, Ms. D. IIiffe and Ms. M. Manns who have been valued members of our educational team during their time at Strathmillan. We are also so pleased that Mrs. D. Stewart will be returning in September and we wish Ms. A. Prychitko all the best in her next teaching position.

We are pleased to share that Mrs. Patricia Chegus will be retiring and we are thankful for her years of service to our Strathmillan Community. Please note that Mr. R. Bychuk has accepted a new position in Pembina Trails School Division teaching music. Lastly, I would like to thank Ms. C. Banks for joining our staff in January and bringing her positive energy and ideas. Ms. Banks will be returning to Ness Middle School in September and we are pleased to announce that Ms. J. O’Brien will be joining us in the Vice Principal position.

Thank you to all the parents and caregivers who provided valuable feedback to our Community Survey. We have been reviewing the suggestions and will endeavour to generate action plans that continue to celebrate the areas of strength and address areas of concern.

In the effort to create smooth transitions we have decided to have a “Bump Up” day on June 28th from 1:45 to 2:30 (morning kindergarten students will Bump Up as part of their morning). The purpose of our first school wide transition day is so that students can meet their new teachers and classmates. Please note that Grade 5 students will have their Transition to Middle School on Friday June 23 @ 1:30 p.m.

We are also looking forward to three very exciting June celebrations. Many of the classrooms will be participating in our Canada Walk on June 29th from 9:30 to 9:45 a.m. Please come and join us and celebrate your Canadian Pride by wearing Red. Second, a big thank you to our Parent Council for arranging another Watermelon Day on June 27th @ 2:00. Everyone is welcome to come and join us for this fun outdoor experience. (Rain date is June 28th). Thirdly, Mr. Bychuk and our Student Council Committee have been very busy planning our last Assembly on June 27th at 9:30. The focus of this assembly will be to share all of the Time Capsule ideas and plans. Please come and join us for this great opportunity to look back into our history.

Thank you for all your support in my first year back at Strathmillan and I am looking forward to 2017 - 2018. Have a wonderful summer break!

BUMP UP DAY June 28, 2017

June 28, 2017

The purpose of our first school-wide Bump Up Day is so students can meet their new teachers and classmates for 2017-2018. Our hope is to begin to build relationships, while alleviatingworries as they move to their next grade.

We will have grade 5 ambassadors who will help groups of students navigate their way to their new homerooms.

Once all students have made their way to their new homerooms, classes can begin to participate in team building activities

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Through Little Free Libraries, millions of books are exchanged each year, profoundly increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds.

Strathmillan is proud to share that our Little Free Library is open and ready for business. Thanks to Mrs. Richardson and her students for the art work, thanks to Mr. D for applying the clear coat to protect it and Mr. Mckiel for his help setting it up.

We are looking forward to many opportunities to share books and encourage a love of reading. Please stop by and check it out.
